Version 1 · Effective 9 August 2026
This page is written to be read, not to be survived. If anything here is vague, that is a mistake — email us and we will fix the wording, because a privacy policy you cannot understand is not a policy, it is decoration.
Successful Dance Studio Systems ("SDSS," "we") builds software used by dance studios. Two different groups of people show up in our systems, and they are treated differently:
In legal terms, for the second group the studio is the controller and we are the processor. Plainly: it is their data, not ours. We do not decide what happens to it, they do — and they can tell us to hand it back or delete it at any time.
| Kind of data | Why we have it |
|---|---|
| Student first and last name, and the studio's own student ID | So a photo order or an ad attaches to the right child. The studio's own ID is the reason we do not have to guess between two families called Smith. |
| Family or account grouping, and the studio's own family ID | So siblings appear together and a family sees one order, not three. |
| Class names, schedules, rosters, enrollment | Schedules, rosters, recital reports, rehearsal tracking. |
| Order records for things we sell on the studio's behalf | Photos, recital ads, and similar. What was ordered, by whom, and whether it shipped. |
| Studio staff logins and activity | Access control and the audit trail described in Security. |
| Credentials for a studio's own software, if they choose to connect it | To read their roster. Stored so that they can be written but never read back — see Security. |
Our software is sold to businesses and used by adults. It is not directed to children and we do not knowingly collect anything directly from a child. Information about a student reaches us from the studio — an adult acting for the business — not from the student.
What we hold about a minor is deliberately thin: a name, a class, a family grouping, and what was ordered. No addresses of students, no birthdates unless a studio's own export includes one, no photographs except those a studio uploads for a service it bought.
A parent who wants to know what is held about their child, or wants it removed, should ask their studio first — the studio controls it and can act immediately. If they contact us directly we will help, but we will verify with the studio before changing anything, because we cannot confirm from the outside who is entitled to a child's record.
We use a small number of vendors to run the software. Each one is listed by name, with what it does and where it is, on the Subprocessors page. That page is part of this policy. We give 30 days' notice before adding a new one, so a studio always has time to object.
Outside that list, we share data in only three situations: when a studio tells us to; when the law requires it (and we will tell the studio unless we are legally barred from doing so); and if the business is ever sold, in which case the buyer is bound by this policy and studios are notified before anything moves.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know what we hold, get a copy, correct it, delete it, or object to how it is used. We honor these requests regardless of whether a particular law happens to cover you — it is easier than checking, and it is the right answer anyway.
We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined under California law. There is no "do not sell" link on this site because there is nothing to opt out of.
To make a request: hello@successfuldancestudiosystems.com. We answer within 30 days. If you are a student or parent, we will route you through your studio as described above.
We use cookies to keep you logged in. That is the whole list. There are no advertising trackers, no third-party analytics pixels, and no cross-site tracking on our software.
If data we hold is exposed, we notify affected studios within 72 hours of confirming it, with what happened, what was involved, and what we are doing. We would rather make an uncomfortable phone call than have a customer learn it from someone else.
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we email customers before it takes effect and bump the version at the top. Old versions are kept so you can see what changed.
